First Dealership Offer on GroupOn - Boom or Bust?

You've got to hand it to LaFontaine Automotive Group in Highland, not only do they get the title of first dealership ever try a GroupOn offer for cars, but their offer received a decent amount of attention.

While the coupon, $199 for $500 Toward the Purchase or Lease of a New or Pre-Owned Vehicle from LaFontaine Automotive Group in Highland, did not receive enough takers to make it valid (4 responded, 10 were needed), it was a bold approach from the dealership. Let's not overlook the fact that four of the ten people needed to enact the discount actually did purchase the GroupOn. If participants are willing to spend $199 on a coupon, chances are good they are well down the sales pipeline and very close to purchasing a car. And if LaFontaine peaked their interest with the coupon, valid or not, it stands to reason these drivers would go to LaFontaine first to take a test drive.

While the experiment, at least this time around, was a bust, I'd be interested to see the number of visits to LaFontaine before and after the GroupOn offer. My hunch is the number of visits after the GroupOn offer is higher. The dealership created buzz with their campaign and often that's far more valuable than any coupon.
